Pumpkin+Patch+Corn Maze+Hayride= FUN!

Halloween is just a couple of weeks away. If you haven’t picked up a pumpkin yet, we’ve put together of local farms in and around Howard County where you get your fall festival on!

Clark’s Elioak Farm

Clark’s Elioak Farm has been a favorite fall destination for many years. This Ellicott City farm has it all, a farmer’s market, petting farm and the Enchanted Forest Village. In the weeks leading up to October, you can visit the pumpkin patch, take a hayride and jump on the Enchanted Express train. Admission to the farm is $7 on weekdays and $8 on the weekends. Individual rides range from $2 to $4.

Triadelphia Lake View Tree Farm

TLV has pick-your-own pumpkin patches, a corn maze and other fun activities.  Mini pumpkins are $1 each,  pie pumpkins are $3 and large pumpkins are 59 cents a pound.  Admission is $8 and includes a hayride to the pumpkin patch. TLV is open on the weekends through October.

Butler’s Orchard

Butler’s Orchard has weekday and weekend fall festival activities or you can come into the  Farm Market and buy a  pumpkin starting at 69 cents a pound. Pumpkin Harvest Days are held during the week and include a self-guided tour of the farm, small pumpkin and take-home activity sheet for $.7.50. On the weekends come for the hayrides, corn maze, carnival activities (Pumpkin Cannon) and yummy festival food. Admission is $12.

Heyser Farms

This Montgomery County farm has pumpkins for sale in their market or you can pick your own.  The farm is also famous for fresh-pressed apple cider that is made on site.  Heyser also bakes pies, cookies and bread. Monday all pies all 50 percent off!

Queen Anne Farm

Queen Anne Farm isn’t close to Howard County, but it is one of the most unique pumpkin patches in the state. The farm carries more than eleven varieties of regular and heirloom pumpkins. It has a fairytale-worthy pumpkin house and a variety of straw animal sculptures. Plus, if you hate carving pumpkins they sell pre-cleaned pumpkins the day before Halloween!

Places to cut-your-own Christmas tree in Maryland

There’s nothing like a fresh Christmas tree to get you in the holiday spirit! Lucky for us Marylanders, there are plenty of places we can go to get a fresh tree right from the ground! All you need is a warm coat, gloves and a little muscle. Here are four Maryland farms that offer that cut-your-own experience.

Clemsonville Christmas Tree Farm

Located in Carroll County, this Christmas tree farm is one of the most affordable cut your own farms in the region. With all trees are priced at just $25, it’s definitely worth the trip. While you’re there, check out the Everlasting Tree, a 50-foot limestone rock formation in the shape of a Christmas tree.  Clemsonville Tree Farm is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Gaver’s cut your own trees range from $55 to $100 and include varieties like Colorado Blue Spruce, Canaan Fir and Scotch Pine. The on-site wreath shop has decorated wreaths, centerpieces, swags and more. Gaver also has a farmers market/bakery serving up hot, fresh cinnamon-sugar apple cider donuts. Check the website for daily updates on hours of operation.

Triadelphia Lake View Farm or TLV for short, has cut your own trees ranging from $45 to $60 and including shaking, bailing and drilling. On weekends,  the little ones can visit with Santa from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. TLV also has a warming hut with seasonal snacks and hot drinks. The farm is open Monday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

Pine Valley Farms

This large farm offers seven varieties of trees ranging from 5-feet to 12-feet, availability conveniently listed on the website. Bring your checkbook or cash, because the farm does not accept credit cards. Stop for a snack in the Christmas barn and browse the fresh wreaths, decor and tree accessories. Check the website for hours.

Four farms with fresh apple cider donuts in Maryland

Fall in Maryland is synonymous with three things; oysters, pumpkins and apples.  With fresh picked apples comes apple cider. This rich apple brew is great to drink but makes an even better donut.  Here are four farms in Maryland where you can get these fresh cinnamon tasty treats.

Heyser Farms is probably the closest farm with donuts to Howard County. This Silver Spring area farm also offers tours of its apple cider press and has a farmers market packed with locally sourced foods and produce. Donuts are made in the mornings, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Come in early before they sell out!

Weber’s Farm

Located just a little east of Towson, Weber’s Farm is a one-stop shop for fall fun. Weber’s has a farmers market,  bakery, pick your own fruit fields, hayrides and more!  One dozen apple cider donuts will only set you back $8 and you can order ahead online to beat the rush. Check the website for a list of the events happening throughout the season.

This Southern Maryland farm is definitely known for its donuts. The list of 24 regular flavors includes red velvet, toasted coconut, carrot cake along with two versions of apple cider donuts. The farm also has a farmers market, nursery, pick your own fields and a vast menu of baked goodies. Donuts can be reserved ahead of time, please call for details.

Located about 40 minutes from Columbia, Gaver Farm is the ultimate fall  hotspot. The farm’s annual fall festival has over 50 attractions including a  corn maze, hayrides, petting zoo, pedal carts and jumping pillows. Admission is $9 per person on weekdays, $13.50 on weekends and free for kids under 2. Donuts are served hot (weekends only) in the cafe. You don’t need to pay admission if you are visiting the cafe, farmers market or pumpkin patch.
